    I'd very much appreciate your opinions on this 22" x 28" portrait (56x71cm). Landscapes are usually my thing, but this guy appealed to me--and the price was right.

    Stuart Adams (1962-2024) was a locally based artist, in and around Portland, Oregon.

    Thanks for any comments!

    A lot of van Gogh influence there.

    Yeah, totally. Those black lines outlining his coat, for example.

    The flat perspective. The cropping. All influenced by Japanese woodblock prints.

    Looks like a school project - to paint a painting in the style of ________ .
    I like the way they added white to the edges of the figure to emphasize it.

    He has a fun face and good composition. It looks like the artist wasn't sure how to work the legs in successfully imo but they aren't the focus.

    Given the artist's birth in 1962 and the painting dated 1985, he was 23 years old. So an art school assignment makes sense.

    I wonder about that too. They look far too wide apart.

    i ruddy love it :jawdrop::woot:

    that continuing horizontal line makes it appear like he's in a large moving round object, and his feet are grounding him

    .....zorbing if you will, but calmly......and unaffected ;):woot:

    i really love impressionist portraits so massive thumbs up from me squire

    Husband has started stacking framed pieces in the half-bath...in-between the toilet and the wall...and then he keeps continuing to use that toilet....... :rolleyes: Man never met a frame he could get rid of, although the motherlode is at his workplace. :D

    He is very clean-minded so in our 20+ years I have never seen errant "spots" lol... Not saying he's a sniper, but he at least sanitizes after himself if need be. I call it "his" bathroom because it's well-hidden and he's usually only one who uses it. It's also his artwork/frame collection... :hilarious:

    The (real) leather couch (that I bought) is in the living room.
