Hello,I am discovering this group and finding exciting topics, congratulations to you all! :cat :

I would like to show you a painting that I just bought, but I can't seem to find the American artist who created it...

I am in France and given the brand of the chassis which is Anco Bilt, I think it is a good American artist.

    Does anyone have an idea?

The artist's name appears to be Ferguson if that's helpful.

Looks early 1960s to my eye. And, fyi, @Le Celte, we like photographs of the entire piece, both front and back, including frame. And, do know that Anco Bilt canvases were not of the highest quality and were typically sold in art stores to hobbyists.

Ferguson for me too. Not high end art, but pretty. You may never know who it was.

Wow. I think she's beautifully done. Reminds me of a page from an old magazine. Commercial art maybe?

I agree it looks 1960s, and I also agree with the artist name being Ferguson.
    Pretty!

I see the work of a hobbyist too. S/he wasn't entirely successful with the sheerness of the veil, for instance.

Anco Bilt frames aren't terribly rare so I'm not sure why you'd think it made the painting special. It may not even be the original frame that came with the picture. If you're in France, you may look to English painters instead of US painters.

Given the subject, the red hair and the signature, I'd look to Ireland (if I were looking abroad).

Ferguson is a Scottish name, and there are a lot of redheads in Scotland too.;)
