What is this? Any ideas?

Hi all,any ideas what this little cast iron thing is. Maybe a link or part of an other item? Well it’s obviously part of something. It is 5cm in overall length. Thanks for any comments

 

Surf-fishing line-weight/anchor?

 

Thanks for the comment and suggestion. Someone else also said that. I have been fishing from the age of about 6 and have used the lead sand and surf breaks fishing weights/sinkers and have also been given fishing gear from previous generations of fishermen and I have never seen a weight like this made of cast iron. But still I suppose it could be a possibility. Anyway a interesting little item..

It could also have been made as a tethered (both ends?) caltrop...but that seems a reach, even to me!

 

It does look like a miniature anchor.
It also looks like part of a chain for a heavy oil lamp, that has had very rough times.

 

My initial thought was an anchor too but I can't find any anchor that looks like it online. They all seem to be more angular/barbed/pointy so that they catch hold of the sea bed properly. Also there are links at both ends of this thingummy, which suggests it was in the middle of something. Bizarre.

 

Part of a weapon maybe? Mace head? Imagine that on a chain on the end of a lump of wood. Ouch.

 

My first thought was caltrop! However, it's probably a weight for something.
