Today at the flea market (I got great stuff). But, this I liked, because of our collection of cameos. This was fifty cents. I removed it from the frame to take a photo. It's back in the frame now.

Since I don't know what they're called I did an image search and I found 3 exact copies. One is linked to a blog entry on Pompeii

and the other two are for sale. They're each $795.

Just now I came up with this one, that seems to say it's worth 50 cents.

ALL of these are reproductions right? It's just mass produced poo poo. It's still very nice. But, the people selling it for $795 are insane? Do they think these are real?

I don't know much about these things. But ALL of them are exactly the same, down to the modern frame. Any ideas?

Collections like these were popular Grand Tour souvenirs, so they can have some age and some value, but I haven't a clue how to tell old from new, or good from bad. They are reproductions of carved gems (or impressions of same depending on whether they are intaglio or relief.). The frame does not look to me to have any age.

There were real plaster casts of cameos sold as Grand Tour souvenirs. Those 19th century plaster bits can sell for quite a lot. I'd bet this set sold for about US$50 originally. What they're worth now...not as much probably, but more than 50 cents!

Some bisque plaques similar to these are readily available on the secondary market. Royal Copenhagen may still be producing them. Can't tell if yours are marked since they are mounted.

I found these on ebay product research in the seller's hub. They both look about like yours and show the sold prices and dates. I think one looks like it's the one in the previous link from Worthpoint.

The first was from CT, and the second was from the UK (I thought) because it's RubyLane. But, you are CORRECT, they are from the same CT dealer.

All the frames look like crap. Because they are. That's what surprising about the $795 price tag.
Thank you. Those are exactly like mine and all the others. My wife is keeping it. She loves it. But, she loves cameos, so it's not surprising.
