This pendant is about an inch and a half in diameter, no marks, tests as at least 18k.

Found at a yard sale for 50 cents, along with a whole lot of other gold pieces. The seller told me not to bother looking for gold in the 50 ¢ bin as she'd already taken all the valuable stuff out. :jawdrop:

Any ideas on the origin of this piece?

Well lets just say, "overconfident" ..There were also gold jade rings, two Swiss watches and a heavy ruby-studded gold bracelet among the other 50 cent gold bits .. I spent $5.50 all told ... birthday prezzies and Xmas gifts taken care of for many a year to come!

The seller convinced me things *might* be a bit better than the price scheme when she told me that the pieces belonged to her great aunt who had traveled widely, lived in the Orient and was once the girlfriend of the Lord Mayor of London ...:bucktooth::shy::jawdrop:

Hm. There's no such thing as the Lord Mayor of London. There is the Lord Mayor of the CITY of London and there's the muppet who was the Mayor of London. Might have been him, he's had more girl friends than I've had hot dinners.

Oh I see .. you're talking about Boris?
Maybe the fact he hasn't been emasculated yet still appeals to some of the female persuasion?:D

I wouldn't know whether he has or hasn't. There are some details about other people's personal lives I'd rather not know.;)
Even people close to him say he is a liar and a cheat, to me that would be enough to leave him to write his bad biographies on his own.

I know some people who have worked very closely with him. They have much to say, none of it good.

I have no doubt ANYONE who has worked with a 21st century politician of ANY stripe would have very little positive to say about them, and rightly so imo ..

You'd be wrong then. I've worked with some very very decent ones indeed. I really hate the demonisation of all politicians as a blanket meme. It simply isn't true, especially at local levels.

Interesting. I find at the local level they are especially bad, but perhaps that's just in Canada, not in the UK ...after all, Britain is the very model of integrity, (at least in their own minds!;)) so no doubt all is well and above board there.

I agree. There are still people who go into politics out of idealism and really try to make a difference for the good of the people and the country as a whole.
And then there are those who go into politics out of narcissism and/or greed and only want to make a difference for the good of their ego, their career and their wallet. Preferably abusing others in the process, after all, when others are down, they are up.
Unfortunately the second group have the biggest mouths and twitter-happy fingers.
