I can usually identify most US vintage boots but this one has me perplexed. Google claims the MILSPEC A-49778 doesn't exist. It does resemble a 1960's Genesco jungle boot but it's not marked inside for "Spike Protective"

    Whatcha think?

I think they probably cost US taxpayers $250-$500...or even more!

If so, that soldier didn't do much marching. Those boots have a Lot of life left in them. Although Military might explain why they're in such good shape. Come home from the army, ditch the boots and they don't surface again for years.

Probably military Surplus - made but never used. Maybe never even issued to any soldiers at all. That used to happen and probably still does.

May not be U.S. military. Milspec refers to the standards that military uniforms must have, but non-military products can carry that definition. I can't imagine a military boot having the specs on the front of the tongue and not inside the boot

To me, they look like those boots that pretty, young girls used to go clomping around in about a decade or two ago. My niece had a pair of those clodhoppers and thought they were really cool.

I find that the genuine 60's Hi Pals have different soles.... vent grommets at the arch, and split heal leather.......and different markings..

That's what I'm saying. They might be girl shoes. But lugging those heavy shoes around all day would be bad for your health, and they're kinda ugly.

Ugly doesn't bother me, when you wear my size with orthotics Ugly is all you can get. Heavy is a problem.
