I am sending them a nice letter today about how I appreciate how hard they work and how much I enjoy their sales, but how I was disappointed with the last one. My suggestions were no seating or tables to sit at to go through louping jewelry, smaller bowls- when one bowl is full, you don't get another one. People who are friends of the charity through annual membership get in first through a separate line and need to show proof of membership.
Don't give anyone access to new jewelry coming out, it goes directly on the table. They used to have it in a larger room on more tables, spread out. People who sweep the tables and put it back should be banned from future sales.

 

Perfect! And emphasize how their current practices are hurting sales, despite all their hard work and generous donors.

Yes, it'll certainly hurt future sales if everyone sees only a few getting preferential treatment and hogging everything. Who would go back if that continues?

 

Amen. It may look good on this week's donation sheet, but it's a good way to run off all but the few who get their hands on the goods first. Word gets around.

Then donations take a nosedive as your reputation for favoritism grows, and then the sale grinds to a halt. Nobody gets anything. That's true when they have someone go through and take out the gold too. You can still get steals if you have your wits about you, but the grabby grannies mess life up for everyone in the long run.

 

One place I go is a little charity thrift. They have someone looking over their donations sometimes, but things do slip through. Not gold. Today it was a Radko circal 2000 Christmas ornament. I paid a whole dollar because I have two antique sellers asking me for vintage Christmas if I find it. It turns out that she's a rarity, Betty Twinkle (a ballerina teddy bear) and the last sold I saw was January 2025 with maybe one listed since.

There was one record on worthpoint from eBay, but it was so old the seller still took checks!

I have seen some greedy behavior, but nothing quite like that! I'm glad you wrote that letter.

 

I see that a lot at estate and church sales. It happens very often with jewelry but there is a pair of women book dealers who are notorious for hoarding and sorting

I'd be joining in. One person yelling is a troublemaker. Two are saying what everyone else is thinking.

I expect to see a letter in my mailbox.... cut in half.... and the second half delivered a week later !!

 

It could be worse; Canada could have gotten a case of the crazies and merged with the USA.

 

I don't think anyone is that stupid to voluntarily want to join up with these lunatics.

Because many people are nice and have been taught manners, and shame and don't want to cause a scene with people who clearly weren't taught manners and could be loud hooligans lol.

I was taught manners by one parent, and being an ass by the other so....With great power comes great responsibility.

 

I can’t understand why anyone running it didn’t stop them. They allowed that behavior & their lack of manners along with the ladies hoarding over the jewelry
