Featured Japanese tobacco box by Zohiko

Another piece made by Zohiko! This time a tobacco box with tray, arrived in all original packaging. Also came with a business card(?) from the maker. I think it was from earlier 20th century.

although the maki-e painting on this one is not as high quality as the tray I posted previously(attached in the end), but the design- covered with a shikishi, a painted card, is very unique. Thanks for looking!

Absolutely! I like the way it looks like it is just loosely draped over the top. Very nice find, shammie.

 

I wonder if the shikishi is a real paper folded and painted, or crafted from lacquer and coal powder mixture too?

 

I think it is lacquer, which makes it even more amazing.

 

The card can likely be dated by the telephone number.

Nice find! Also there’s another lacquer bowl which has the same card dated 1928, so early 20th century seems valid

the maker also signed on the package (wooden box) at the back of the lid, so yes I believe and the description on the front of the lid matches the tobacco box too, from the same hand
