    Hello,
Please help identify the country, era, and maker from the hallmark.

This is a very interesting piece used during the tea-drinking ritual. The silver strainer pivots to the side and catches the tea leaves while the tea is poured from the teapot into the cup.

Just wondering, what makes you think it was used in a tea-drinking ritual, and where? The construction as such is fun, but not unusual.

It was used when you pour tea out of a pot. Europe or the UK mostly. I've seen the same design in stainless steel. Loose tea leaves sometimes get ...loose, and this strainer keeps them out of your cup. The attached bit underneath keeps whatever is strained out from dripping onto the table. I've never seen one with a fancy pour spout on the drip catcher, but it is silver and fancy.

The plain jane modern ones I saw had metal mesh strainers. They worked.

    I wondered that, too.
Taking tea is not necessarily a "ritual".
The Swiss company Jezler is still in business, Debora provided a link to their website. It might be worthwhile contacting them to find out the age of your tea strainer.
