I didnt buy the painting/print I asked about here yesterday, but I did buy this bronze? Statue that's been made into a lamp + a Chinese glazed elephant garden stool - trying to expand my knowledge!
I wasnt sure about the statue/lamp because the back of the base was flat; like it was meant to stand against a wall, but when I did a image search of the statue several turned up with the same flat base, saying it was a early 1800s Bronze statue of a India figure Lakshmi!
My question is, is mine the same/real one but converted into a lampl like it looks like?
    Is it bronze?
It measures just under 22" (33" with lamp harp) & the shade came with it, but I don't think it's the original?
PS - last pics are of the glazed elephant garden stool (used so you don't have to be on your knees while gardening)
Finally, did I do good with these 2 purchases (I know they were better than buying the print!)
As always, thank you & I appreciate your help!

Think the shade belongs to it?

She is Tara, a major Himalayan Buddhist deity. This one is called the Dancing Tara. She was made in Nepal, not India.
She is a beauty, but missing the left side of her crown.:(
    She looks like cast brass.

Those are also missing that one side of the crown.
My guess is that someone bought a bunch of faulty cast Taras cheaply from a foundry in Nepal, and turned them into lamps. Being incomplete, they couldn't be sold for religious purposes, and someone got there before they were melted again.

Depends on what you had to pay for them. I think both are saleable items.

I am with Bosko on this but not sure that most MCM shades would work.

Something like this would be perfect.

... or probably easier to find

Brad's choices are perfect and at the thrifts I hit can be found for between $10 -$20 each. The top one w/ the Asian 'flairs' (curled ends ?) is my fave for a fun look.
PS-Just curious, can I still use the term 'Oriental' as far as referring to a design motif/style ?

For me, I'd prefer East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, etc.

I think Orientalist / Orientalism, to refer to the early 20th C fad, is okay.

Again, those are just my preferences.

Surprised to see the tribal name 'Papago' still sometimes used online ?
AJ now gives me 'Naver Papago', when I Google the word.
Quote-'Naver Papago is a multilingual machine translation cloud service provided by Naver Corporation. The name Papago comes from the Esperanto word for parrot, Esperanto being a constructed language.'

Lots of mentally teenaged men would want her for the mancave, damaged crown or not. :p:p:p

You'd only have her with an intact crown!

Thanks all! I'm thinking I would sell her without a shade because that would double the cost of shipping & probably have to go in 2 boxes.

It doesn't do her any favors anyway. I might put it up for sale separately, if you think someone might want to pay the freight.
