Found this beauty on Chinese eBay for less than £40– I’m sure a box with similar size and condition will easily get higher bid if listed on real eBay! It has two panel missing at the front and back, but the someone has glued a MOP penguin, a coral bead and a pearl there… what a cute repair!

Now my MOP boxes have outnumbered my Tortoiseshell boxes as I can’t legally source them internationally. So I just move on to Japanese antiques of same material!

I'll pick the dark one in the upper right corner. It looks it's set with an ammonite.

you mean the one with glass top? It’s indeed the most expensive one, by its own right & if count the brooches within :D

As much as I love a nice ammonite, I'd probably choose middle row, the second from the left. I find it a pleasing design.

Of course, harlequin has always been my favorite pattern!

Victorian card cases weren't selling for a lot in the UK a few years ago, and the glass topped box looked like an awful lot of work to make.

I only came to realize how cheap these card cards are on ebay after I left UK… now I have to pay at least £10 shipping for every single of them :(
