Can't sell these even for $5.

Portrait plates seem to be out of fashion right now. I agree with Any Jewelry. Research sold listings and price points and a pattern might emerge. I am not above undercutting the lowest prices listed, but I do think we reach a certain point where if we discount prices too much we signal to buyers that the items are not desirable.

That's the problem with garage sales and local selling venues like Marketplace. People don't expect to see antiques, or are just not interested, or won't pay a fair market value.

RANT: I went out on ebay last night looking for a vase. I wanted a Fenton Milk glass hobnail Pitcher vase. When I still had a mall space, I could get about $20 for one. Well, the prices on ebay were well above that amount! I was astonished! Just the cost of shipping is at least $12-15. Guess I won't be getting a new vase unless I can find one locally.

Especially when people aren't buying right now.

Painted plates sell here as long as they don't have people on them. Not for much, but they sell.

Yes the cost of shipping is killing sales left and right. When I go to figure out how much things will cost to ship, I am just disgusted and I am the seller.

If it's heavy or bulky, only the postal service is making money. It's why in the old days I rarely sold anything big; the money to work ratio was impossibly off.

When a small flat rate box costs an arm and a leg, things are out of hand.

Oops, I put my post in the wrong thread. I meant it for Rants/Raves. But on that subject, I Made an Offer on one vase I was looking at. The ask was $48 plus shipping of about $14. I offered the seller $25 and explained why etc. She countered with $44 but with the shipping and tax it would have cost over $60 for a MG vase. I declined. Will look for one locally. ANother seller had one for $17.50 from a location 65 miles north of me in OHio. He wanted another $17 to ship. I let that one go too, mostly because it wasn't exactly what I wanted.

Maybe the costs are out of hand because the billionaires are investing in shipping service companies.

I see folks on etsy buying costume jewelry and gold jewelry and silver items.

Perhaps they melt down the real stuff.
There used to be a saying called the Lipstick code regarding buying things during harsh money times like these. People can make themselves feel better with a new lipstick to wear. I think we have entered that time of life again. People buy something not expensive to get by and feel better. Or maybe not

I don't sell any jewelry at all, but I noticed a seller on etsy who has a ton of Monet.
They seem to sell, but they ain't cheap.

The Lipstick code is definitely in play, although department store lipsticks are being avoided most likely. Prices on costume are going up too, even former garbage like Avon, because the real thing is unaffordable to many. If you can buy gold, really nice antiques are hitting the market because people are selling because prices are so high.
