'Comet' Miniature Tin Night Lamp, is this a lion face?

    At first I thought this was an early American 'Comet' style tin lamp by William Noe - then I noticed the spout comes out of the mouth of a central animal face. Maybe a lion? Appears to have a 'mane', or at least hair!

    Like a fountain face that water streams out of! There is no label on the underside to identify it.

    Is that the letter "D" just under the "lion's" mouth to the right side, or just a squiggle?

    Appears to be the end tip or metal 'chape' of the leather belt.Cool lamp.
