    Have this beautiful vase, 26 cm tall. Matte black glaze finish. Beautiful hand painted profile portrait. bright white porcelain.
    There are impressed marks in the bisque, 1.) what looks like an L or and S?! and 2.) numbers 233 m.
    Can you please help me with country of origin/maker/timing?! My only guess is that it is neoclassical revival, 1860-80es?! Old Paris porcelain?! can't find anything on the mark.
    Limoges blank?!
    Thank you very much in advance!!!

    Quite a piece. Until the real potties weigh in, I'll remark that the portrait strikes me as more likely to be meant for the goddess Juno/Hera than any actual queen/empress. "Classical revival' and 'neoclassical' are going terms; neoclassical revival is only happening now that Trump wants all new public buildings to be in the classical style. The angular handles seem very art deco to me. In my experience this sort of thing usually turns out to be the production of one of the German porcelain manufacturers.

    Those are a lot of different periods.;) The Neoclassical style is late 18th-early 19th. Old Paris porcelain is late 18th - 1850s or 70s, depending how you look at it, and a very different style.
    But it looks Jugendstil to me, which is the German sibling of Art Nouveau style.
    :joyful::rolleyes:
    Not a pottie either, but I agree, it looks German. German Jugendstil already had the linear and angular shapes that were later used in Art Deco designs. Those portraits on porcelain are often German as well.

    I'm going to guess here at Bohemian/Austrian/German, (wish there was a mark!), and c.1880. IMHO, it is aesthetic design, but with a neo-renaissance decoration. Bit of a cross-over of styles.

    Thank you very much for finding this - yes, indeed, they look very stylistically similar in many ways. And the notation from the seller also says "possibly French/German" :) I will try to find information on the "cursive L", perhaps in the bohemian/german domain.
