I really like the beautiful carved bamboo part (but not so such as a lamp) Is this mid-century? (found some other similar looking lamp examples online) The base and lamp parts looks newer to me (but the bamboo section looks older?) The whole thing is not very well put together (I thought) Did someone make a a brush holder into a lamp? It stands 38cm tall and the base is 16cm wide. Thank you for any replies

Very nice, Boland. Looks like the bamboo is a repurposed Chinese brush pot.

Many thanks for the reply AJ. Glad you like it. I was wondering about that. The bamboo part it beautiful. I would have preferred if they left it as a brush pot.

The bamboo cracked, as bamboo does, and someone made a lamp out of it. Better a lamp than landfill.

I find these very difficult to date, but I would guess late 19th.

I love the way they have carved behind some of the bamboo stalks in the bamboo bush/forest scene. That is a sign of quality.:)

Thanks AJ,I can understand that these must be difficult to date. But late 19th would be great.. Very good point you make regarding little details and the relation to quality. :)
