    Hello

here is a 14ct gold brutalist diamond ring

Picked this up from my local charity shop on the way home today

Having a closer look at home I saw
It has letters and numbers that I can’t make sense inside the band

maybe it’s related to the design code or maker

Nice ring. Here in Europe we would call the style Modernist, Brutalist has crude (brut) blobs, suggesting the metal wasn't worked in any way. But I believe people in the US are less strict about the term, so I will leave it to our US members to decide.;)
Could be. It isn't a postal code, for insurance?

Ya , verynice ring.....but , did they miss the 14k, or did u pay melt weight ??

picking that for pennies at a charity, is almost unheard of these days....:jawdrop:

    Hi

Actually quite a few charity shops near where I live have started selling gold. Normally a bit over melt value. They must get someone to value it for them. This was just under scrap and it was there for a while too

    I agree modernist sounds better

Our modernist architecture in the uk is quite brutal though

    :joyful:

I thought you were in the US because of the 14k mark, my apologies.
(Or as our king said, "my apopologies")
I could have known of course, the title says 14ct.:banghead:

Yes I’m based in the UK

The ring is giving me Scandinavian vibes

Unlikely that it’s from the uk in 14ct

I did see a similar one online in 18ct

The Scandi countries have proper assay marks and they mark the millessimal fineness, so not 14.

Yes, you have to be bilingual here.:D

    Ah yes true

From my research a lot of the these were made in smaller artisanal jewellers so probably not sent of to be assayed

But you still need a country that is accustomed to marking it 14k.

Or Asia. Hongkong and Singapore made beautiful jewellery in Modernist styles. They usually have higher finenesses, but could use 14k for export.

The Italians make 14k for export to us dumb 'Murricans, but it's generally marked better. I'd call the design late 70s geometric modernist. It's not craggy and blobby enough for brutalist.

Strikes me as 1970s too. 'Geometric' is another term that could apply to it. The way 14K is written in an almost cuneiform way interests me.
