I'm going to try to sell this on ebay. But, I'd like to put it up correctly.
I asked grok once, and it told me it was Italian. I asked grok again and it told me it was a German school in the Weimer era. When I told it, it was all grown men, it said "oh yes. It's a german military battalian".

This is how grok translated this writing to English from Italian (I think this is Italian not German)

To offer to the 6th Infantry Regiment at the Reading Competition (Parma) Year 1925 - August - 1st Prize.

Greetings: affectionate yours officers sons Mario and Giulio

Anyone have any thoughts. The uniforms should give it away. But, I can never tell the difference.

    THANK YOU!

There may be extant records available online to add substance to that reference...

I looked and found nothing. Then asked all kinds of AI, and the answers are ridiculous.

    Italian, in the 20's
Italy was not at war but mainly fighting amongst themselves, Fascists, Socialists, Communists and anarchists

Definitely officers and NOT German. The hats are totally wrong. Dead ringers for WWI Italian hats though.

That is AMAZING. I've done all kinds of searches. How did you find this? Looking side by side, that looks like him. He spent most of his career with the 6th Infatry. So, that might very well be him.

UPDATE: Same AI, and he was never with the 6th Infantry.

    I'm reading:
The officers of the 61st infantry at [....] of Calestano (Parma)

There is a Comune di Calestano (Municipality of Calestano), but the first word with a C, doesn't seem to be Comune.

How about "Campo di Calestano"? And I read that as "August - September."

I also thought it could be Campo, but as that possible P looked more like the F in Figli, I assumed it would be incorrect. But it does make sense.
And I also think it's September.
    Followed by
Warm regards, your [...] (I don't think it's officers) sons Mario & Giulio

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The last word before their names looks like it could be figli, which means "children" or in this case, "sons" -- As long as the second name is Giulio and not Giulia.

It helps sometimes when I word something incorrectly. But, as I dig deeper, it changes it's robotic mind.

The word before 'figli' could be an abbreviation of 'affezionati' (loving), so:
Warm regards from your loving sons, Mario & Giulio
(or 'loving children' if it's Mario & Giulia)

I look at AI the way I look at any new invention. There's good and bad.

A prime example is the calculator. It's a must have, and incredible time saver for accountants or anyone who needs to do figures quickly. That's what it was meant for. It wasn't meant for children to do math with. You're allowed to use a calculator in school. How fundementally wrong is that? You don't learn anything if a machine is doing the work for you. Everytime I pay for something and it's like $2.02 and I give the person a $5 bill and two cents, they have no idea how much change to give me.

AI will be good for some things, and awful if it's all you rely on.

The only thing is... According to the internet, Italy didn't have a 6th Infantry Regiment until 1937.

The negative effect of AI is already visible on various sites, with people selling stuff with descriptions and prices based on AI results.
There's already a lot of (political/social/scientific) ignorance, with people basing their truths on what they read on Facebook, X, etc., and this will only get worse (and at a much faster pace) with AI, as AI will be fed with more ignorance based on ignorance. If enough people/sites start saying the pic shows a German school in the Weimer era, in the end AI will insist that you're wrong saying they're grown men.
