I was not sure whether to post this on glass, metal or both--so I decided on both with different Qs. But I was advised to post in only one forum so I moved my glass Qs here. (Sorry for any confusion.)

I know NOTHING about marks on metal--not even where to look. But you do. Thank you in advance.

What are these marks? Do they suggest a date, country of origin, manufacturer, etc.?

I moved my glass Qs here:

I am not sure if it is cut glass or pressed (I have gone back & forth--I just do not trust my "touch" of how sharp the design feels. Today I am leaning toward CG.)
Google Lens A Un-I identified it as EAPG Westermoreland pattern "Sterling," aka "Pinwheel Blazing Star," which it is clearly NOT. No pinwheel, no star, no silver rim (only the most general similiarity in cylindrical shape with different proportions & a sawtooth rim). http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?campid=5337485078&toolid=10001&mpre=https://www.ebay.com/itm/386823701842#

It did find a cut glass vase with a similar (but not identical) design with fans & diamonds & with a silver rim in a German auction house, identified as English c. 1910:

    Any ideas?

You are a wonder! It looks like William Hutton & Sons, and to my eye it seems closest to the 1896...1908 mark. But I need to do some more polishing and photographing to be sure what (if anything) is below the H. Of course, the ampersand could have worn off.

The captured images I attempted to post in the previous reply did not cut & paste correctly so I removed them. They were three William Hutton & Sons Ltd. marks: 1896..1908, 1918..1929, and 1930. No mark listed for 1913, but they were in business & presumably continued to use their mark.

My parents lived in England (Shropshire) in 1970 where they collected china (mother) & cut glass (father), so they could have purchased this then.

Is there a way to distinguish sterling from silverplate? Evidently, William Hutton & Sons did both.
