    Hello all

i bought this pendant. I don’t think much of the portrait but the frame is fantastic.

Gemstones are all genuine, tiny diamonds at top and bottom, rubies, pearls and turquoise around the outside.

Haven’t tested the metal but looks like gold and silver-i don’t think vermeil but could be wrong.

European i assume, but i dont know where or when.

There are two marks on the back but they are hard to make out, hopefully someone knows.

I'm bothered by the remains of the portrait. She looks too much to me like the miniatures seen in some jewellery that are prints touched up with dots & dabs of white paint that make them appear to have more dimension than they really do. These are usually not fine jewellery. How was the nature of the stones ascertained?

I believe she is indeed one of those portraits.
I was wondering about that too. On the photos the turquoises and pearls look faux, but I don't have it in hand.
Faux stones are not unusual, even on silver and gold jewellery.

You could be right about the turquoise, they do look like glass.

Rubies and diamonds both tested with a cheapo diamond tester, and a Presidium gemstone tester. Pearls are tooth tested.

I'm curious to see what this would look like under UV light.

Lab grown rubies, I would have to guess. Neither the diamonds nor the pearls are responding the way I would expect of real ones. The size & placement of the diamonds may be affecting this. After a little bit of experimentation with UV & turquoise, did not find it a useful diagnostic.

Portrait looks 1940s Victorian Revival to my eye.
