Hi everyone, I just picked up this Pickard D&C Limoges tea set, sadly missing the lids, but I was wondering how I would go about cleaning them? Theres some tea stains and I have no idea what to use

Also, why did this decorator use 3 different signatures?

We have seen something similar in the cameo world. There was a 19th century cameo carver who sometimes signed what looks like Silz, sometimes Sll, sometimes what looks more like Sel but is probably also Sll, and only rarely the full name, Schmoll. The appearance of a z in the first variant is due to a flourish under the l. We have seen no pattern in how pieces were signed.

I have had some luck removing stains with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.

    Lovely set, hoop.
Looks like three different decorators painted the same design.

Tea stain/residue in the pot? Baking soda and bouling water will do the trick.

Seconded. Pickard was a factory who didn't make their own blanks. These are from France, but at other times they used Lenox from the USA. Three different signatures mean three different artists, at least, did the same design.

The decorator was Robert Hessler who was employed at Pickard from 1898 until 1912. Sometimes he signed his full name and sometimes he just used his initials. A quick flip through my Pickard book didn't produce the pattern name but I'll try and go through it in more detail this weekend.

Wow, thanks for the research! I tried using google lens to find a similar pattern, but nothing so far.

From "Collector's Encyclopedia of Pickard China":

Your items are in the "Moorish Design". All signed by Robert Hessler.

Wow, that’s beautiful! His other designs are also very pretty. He must’ve been a nice man too.
