Found This pair today and want to identify Maker’s Mark “G·B” on Victorian/Edwardian Snake Ring

One sadly has lost an eye

a heavy 18ct gold double-headed snake ring (11.5 grams) set with old-cut diamonds. Inside the shank there are two clear hallmarks: one rectangular stamp with G·B, and another rectangular stamp that looks like the older “crown over 18” gold mark, but it’s quite worn. I can’t see a date letter or assay office mark—possibly lost to wear.

From the style, construction, old-cut stones and the type of “18” stamp, it looks late Victorian to early Edwardian. I’ve been trying to match the maker’s mark, and the closest I’ve found is George Bull, London (registered 1878)—the punch shape and serif letters look very similar. Before I go any further down that road, I’d love to hear opinions from people who know these marks better than I do.

Does the G·B mark look like George Bull to you, or is there another maker I should be considering for this period?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Beautiful ring, I love snake rings and old cut diamonds, so this beauty is perfect for me.;) The eye can be replaced, as long as it isn't a glass eye.:playful:

I wonder if the mark is for George Bedingham (1903-1912), who seems to have imported rather than manufactured.

Thanks! I love Victorian snake rings too — the intertwined snakes symbolise eternal love, which makes them so special. And I’m a big fan of old-cut diamonds as well. I’ll definitely look into Bedingham, though the style still feels a bit earlier to me. Happy to hear any other suggestions for G·B makers.

    it’s probably a size as

I meant to say it’s a size T so you would have to probably wear as a index or thumb ring

We use the diameter in mm, this ring is between close to 20mm.

A Victorian snake head ring... a bucket list item for me!

Can you provide an example of George Bull's mark for comparison? I was unable to find it on the internet.

I do agree with AJ that it looks very like George Bedingham's mark.

Most of them. One has ruby eyes but also a rose cut diamond in the top of its head.
The one I wear most is only 9k, but it does have tiny diamond eyes.
