One of my favorite recent pick-ups and I got it for a song too. Perhaps the rest of the crowd didn't put two and two together on what the 18th amendment was, or they may have thought it was a new repro.

Any idea of the entity behind the message? The two parts seem contradictory, unless the point is that repealing prohibition would leave law enforcement more time & man power for enforcing other laws, the way decriminalizing marijuana takes a burden off the justice system.

Yes, enamel on metal. Unfortunately, no markings giving any clue on a maker.

Prohibition was a strange time. A lot the groups that championed its passage ended up turning on it in the end. Many women's groups were the grassroots advocacy behind its passage, and the anti-saloon league did the rest.

Since it was concurrent with the great depression and it had taken out a relatively prosperous brewery industry and a lot of jobs with it, a lot of folks wanted repeal to allow them to resume their brewery businesses and help lower unemployment.

Some folks blamed prohibition for the rise of Al Capone and organized crime since there never was a law that was so uniformly ignored by the general public creating a whole industry of bootleggers.

I watched a documentary on this subject a while back. Women or some women thought drinking led to their husbands getting too drunk to work or getting cozy with other women.

It was great to watch and learn. I find at my age now, I like to watch historical programs more than before.

Scarier than the 18th amendment itself. Fakes are everywhere. Honest repop is fine, but I hate fakes. As for Prohibition... good luck with that. :p:p:p:p
