I think I found the worst repair job i’ve ever seen…

Just got this Old Hall Earthenware vase from an estate sale for $16, but I think it’s gonna fall apart if I look at it wrong. Whoever repaired the head is a monster, it looks like they just splashed gold paint on lol

I think the pearl eyes are original? I haven’t found any of his other work with pearl eyes IMG_7226.jpeg IMG_7227.jpeg IMG_7229.jpeg IMG_7228.jpeg IMG_7231.jpeg IMG_7233.jpeg IMG_7232.jpeg

i'm pretty sure that guy had a time machine or fell through a time port or something...madness compared to everything else of its time really

i tend to really like it though, just seems to work even when it shouldn't.

i'd think the whole head has been rebuilt at sometime (can you tell what the head looks made of?) (is it a different material/colour under the gold than the rest)

could definitely be bettered though (if it looks like it'll come off)

the top rim is odd as well....think there was something else there thats not anymore

There’s a set of gold dots on the other side of the dragon’s head that looks similar to under the flowers. I’m assuming that part is original, and it looks like the same clay from the bottom repair was used for the head as well.

His art style on this one reminds me of Minoan frescos. If you think he’s a time traveler, check these out… IMG_7164.jpeg

The pearls look like beads, the red arrows point to what looks like the drilled holes:

My first thought was "oh that poor vase!" I suppose we're lucky it's still here instead of the garbage heap, but somebody's amateur auntie had a go at repairing it and ... monkey Jesus anyone? The eyes are painted glass or plastic pearl beads. The dragon's head is coated in craft paint of a sort that doesn't adhere to ceramic well and what looks like plumber's cement. (ouch!) It's definitely missing what looks like a metal rim.

I think your vase was originally a pitcher. The feet on yours behind the head were originally the hind feet.
