That Mosaic Inlaid craft is simply amazing to me...I've owned a few pieces, none near as finely done as yours. The precision in cutting, the patience in creating such art is a towering testament to human expression...often, I suspect, by those with only rudimentary education, who earn a pittance for the value of their efforts.
    Beautiful...thanks!

It’s not Indian, I’d say. Persian or thereabouts.

Agree, thereabouts. I'd say Middle Eastern or Egyptian.

You can see where Granada Ware came from, in terms of design, can’t you.

I'd say Eastern Mediterranean somewhere . My guess would be Syria, but I'm not an expert.

Agree. You can find ivory on fine 19th century Syrian and North African furniture sometimes.
But this isn't an antique piece, and camel bone is used a lot in Middle Eastern inlay. Ivory would probably be too expensive nowadays for a nice souvenir from a country that has no native elephants.

I was looking at inlaid ring boxes from Egypt the other day, as a pretty gift box option for ethnic rings I sell. I could get them new for 5-10 euro, and cheaper if I ordered 20.
So even though this inlay work is beautifully detailed and true handwork, present day pieces are not considered upmarket enough to add ivory, besides, most inlay pieces are made for export, so it isn't worth taking the risk.

He can buy pieces like this any day, and while they are beautifully made, they are much too recent for him. He hunts for those rare, high quality antique pieces.

i tend to agree that it isn't antique....if you look at the wood itself it just doesn't scream that ;)

also that could have been a modern (ish) label removal on the bottom

    i get a 70s feel from it ?
