You're in the UK, if I remember correctly, aren't you? We don't hear much, but from what I've read, y'all need a change.
    Best of luck!

Why would Germans use the Norwegian for Norway?

It seems to me that if these were worn by occupying Germans, they were more like campaign medals, which would usually be in the language of the issuing force. But if they were just a souvenir that caught on & became popular. I imagine no sensible jeweller would refuse to make/customize them, no matter his sentiments.

I think if these had been worn by occupying Germans they would have had Swastikas or SS symbols on them or even Skull & Crossbones.

Obviously these symbols are not allowed on eBay so become very difficult to sell, so an alternative has been produced.
I think these items are relatively new and not from WWII otherwise we would have been seeing them years ago.

Note Charlies ring has been cut on the shank.

I remember before Russia was banned from eBay there were several scam eBayers selling so called German tank commanders rings dug from the battle fields of Leningrad, Stalingrad and the Caucasus oilfields, supposedly taken from the skeletal remains in destroyed Panzer tanks.

They had large Skulls on the ring.

There were more identical rings for sale than there were tanks destroyed.

I can't reply properly otherwise this thread will become political.

I am not allowed to post or discuss on social media or the internet in a case involving me until it has been fully investigated by the powers that be.

I sent a text and it was ignored, so I sent an email and it was ignored, so I copied the text and the email onto paper and sent them by post.

    Now I'm the bad guy.

Its been 5 months now and no end in sight.

i don't think they make reproductions in silver, as i mentioned that the ring has been tested and clearly is ;)

It's not that long ago that the price of pure silver would have been no obstacle to the profitability of making fakes/imitations if they had market appeal.

It looks like a typical American college class ring or a military unit ring. Do you think it was made after the war for someone who participated in the resistance? Jon has stuff from all the units he belonged to from 31 years of Navy service.

Look what you can buy new on several sites
    https://germanrings.lv/en/norwegian...norge-1940-5th-norwegian-wiking-div-ring.html
Lots of different designs all over the internet including the same as yours.

Fake silver "1940 Norge" WWII rings are
common reproductions, often sold as new items on sites like Etsy or specialized militaria shops, made from actual silver (800, 925) or "German Silver," featuring designs of Viking ships or SS runes, mimicking rings worn by Norwegian volunteers in German SS units like Germanske SS Norge (GSSN) or the 5th Wiking Division, but most available today are modern copies for collectors, not authentic wartime artifacts

    Key Characteristics of "Norge" Rings:
    • Designs: Feature Viking ships, Norse symbols, or SS runes (like the SS-rune or Totenkopf skull).
    • Materials: Marked with silver content like "925," "800," or "830," sometimes with maker's marks (e.g., "J.J.").
    • Context: Honored Norwegian volunteers who served in German SS divisions during WWII.
    n

    • How to Identify Fakes vs. Originals:
      • Modern Reproductions: Often sold as "repros" or "replicas," usually new, with consistent details and sizes.
      • Originals: Show genuine wear, patina, and age; details might be less sharp; often found through auction sites with provenance.
      • "German Silver": A nickel alloy, not actual silver, sometimes used in reproductions.
      • Authenticity: True wartime pieces are rare; be wary of too-perfect condition or readily available stock.

      • Where to Find Them (and Beware):
        • Etsy & eBay (via search on LiveAuctioneers): Common for both modern copies and genuine artifacts.
        • Germanrings.lv & 1944Shop.com: Sell reproductions and reproductions made from original designs, clearly labeled or implied as such.

        • In Summary: If you're buying a "1940 Norge" ring, assume it's a replica unless sold by a highly reputable dealer with proof of age and origin, as these are popular items for historical collectors, making them prime targets for reproduction.
