Please Help Identify my Painting

It measures 17" long and 15" tall without the frame. The frame measures 23 1/2 " long and 21 1/2 inches tall. The finish is matte.

 

Love it ! Better Pics needed and any details of Provenance. Focus on signature & penciling on reverse. Where/how did you come by it ?
I'd buy it in a heartbeat (dep on price).
PS-Did my best but can't make heads/tails on the signature.This is par for the course for many artists.

 

Nice painting. I see maybe, R. ? Carigan or similar. Can find no match with a quick search. I am on my phone so hard to see and search. Will have a look tomorrow when on the pc.

 

I have attached pictures of the back but it is difficult to decipher. I found this piece at a second Hand store. It was way up high but I spotted it

I couldn't tell you about the artist. But, it's a nice painting.

 

Any chance this is William L. Carrigan? I am seeing some similarity in style and signature, though his usual signature is just Carrigan. For example:

The Sea | The Phillips Collection

Looks like we may not be seeing the real back of the painting. looks like it could be a cover board with framing notations. Is this the case?

 

Tell that 2nd hand to open up a franchise in Portland !
PS-Just said my prayer- 'Please Lord, make more dummies open thrift stores'.

 

I don't know who did it but I would have bought it in a heart beat!!!!!!!!!

 

Why don't you take it out of its frame and see if there's anything under the cover board?

Thank you Thank you....It does seem to be William L Carrigan and as far as the backing, you are looking at the back of the board it was painted on. It is the real back of the painting.

 

Really doesn't look like the back of a canvas. And someone wrote framing notations directly on the back?
