Just picked up this weaving, measures about 60" x 32", seems to be wool on a cotton warp - the red is quite unusual and "fiery" ...the ends are folded over and sewn so no fringe evident ...after a bit of googling think it might be a Swedish weaving? Any ideas?

With the asymmetry and repeated variations of the design, it might be inspired by Bauhaus textiles (like Anni Albers). It does not appear to have much wear.

@2manybooks Much as I would like this to be a Bahaus rug, I'm afraid I can't get away from Scandinavia, and after further digging I think this must be a "rana" rug.

Apparently Lapplanders used them in their sleighs as coverlets. The Swedes and Finns use them as wall hangings. Ranas seem to favour asymmetry and the "toothed" design is also common, so I think it must be one.

I agree, it looks like a rana rug from Sweden or Finland. They are also popular as throws over furniture. @judy may know more about them.

    Hi AJ!

    Hi Blooey!

I wish I could ID, but not like any piece to which I can relate.

It would look lovely in my kitchen though! :cat:

Looking around my house checking out woven items, I discovered I have this narrow table runner.....(in use no less). DUH!

    Similar woven pattern?

Never paid much attention to the weave but it is different from most that I have.

Very different from my floor mats.

Here is another that I also use on a daily basis......bit more geometric design, but similar.

I am more likely to recognize this type of Scandi weaves.

    Thanks for the confirmation ID!

Now I can tell my pal that his ID as "African - Bantu, I think":wideyed: was just a tiny bit wide of the mark!:jimlad:
