I always love an excuse to run a UV flashlight around my darkened display cabinet, where there are objects made of elephant & walrus ivory, antler & tagua nut. What I see is that the materials that are basically tooth enamel - the ivories - soak up the light & look just about the same as they do in daylight. The antler pieces reflect it back brightly. The tagua nut carvings are variable, with outer layers glowing purple, while deeper in it behaves like ivory. I have had the experience of tagua nut splitting, probably along a growth line.

Still looks like bone to me. How does it react to UV?

Not sure anything could cope with Charles sitting up on it. Must have super physical properties.

Thought I didn't have anything made of bone, but poked around & found a few items. They absorb the UV too, so on that score can't differentiate between bone & inner tagua nut. If you think it's giving the appearance of bone due to grime, let's see it clean then. :D
