    IMG_4757.jpeg Good morning, everyone!
It’s been a while since my last post, so I wanted to stop by to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, prosperous New Year!

I’m also excited to share my latest acquisition: a gold pendant featuring a pearl and a ruby. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on it, do you think the figure depicted is Zeus?
Also, what do you make of the signature?
How old do you estimate it might be?
    Thank you.xx

    Hi Komokwa,
It’s not marked, just tested as 9 carat gold.

Can't help with the siggie, just wanted to say I like it and would have bought it in a heart beat :)

Hi, Simona. Warm & happy holidays to you. Definitely a Zeus, although sort of a minimalist one. Typically he would have a wreath of oak or laurel leaves around his head.

This is a case where I'm more covetous of the setting than of the shell cameo. Looks to me like some of his hair is missing at the back? The line there seems too straight to have been made by the cutter.

Need to do some poking in my files of signatures before tackling that one.

Except for the first letter, which could be S, it looks a lot like Schmoll, the 'Silz' variant:

    Silz Ariadne type 2B adj.jpg

It's difficult to sort out which of the marks/scratches are meaningful & which are accidental.

The quality of the carving is consistent with the general level of Schmoll's work.
