    I'd say green turban shell too. It's definitely green, and abalone that isn't.

    @Figtree3

    Not sure AI can be blamed, if they showed it a good photo. This is what I got:

    "This is a Roman carnelian intaglio depicting a lioness or tigress with a thyrsus (a staff associated with Dionysus) tied to her back.The carving is set in a modern gold signet ring."

    Not too far off, a female big cat, although a pantheress. They are right about the thyrsus & association with Dionysus. And jasper, not carnelian.

    The image search did turn up one of the same type also identified as a bull that is actually a boar.

    So tiny I have never managed a good photo, but the intaglio in a ring I wear nearly all the time:

    That's her! Is it just me, or would you take her home before you'd take those kids? They don't look quite human.

    Romulus & Remus. I always think if the fratricidal combat had gone the other way, it would now be Reme instead of Rome.

    I still think I'd take the wolf home first.

    Loose cameo for $10. My dealer friend Lumii_20260118_125152818.jpg
    Lumii_20260118_124645110.jpg scrapped the 14k and pearls.

    Thick neck, but with a tiny nose... 40s? 50s? Earlier?

    I'm not sure when she debuted, but like Headband Girl, I've never seen an instance that didn't strike me as being post-WWII. In addition to the Nose Rule - the smaller the nose, the newer the cameo - I also have the Hairstyle Rule - the cameo cannot be earlier than the time when the hairstyle became popular.

    Yours is an interesting case. The ponytail is almost vestigial, while the cutter has added details lifted from earlier times: the butterfly, the grain, the earring. Suspect she is no older than mid-1950s, but executed by someone acquainted with Victorian era cameos. Too bad the mount is gone; the findings could have been informative.

    Unlike Headband Girl, who is almost always glass, Ponytail Girl is so fetching that she turns up in various materials.

    I could not get a good picture of it because it is so light, but there is an upward stroke to complete the 8. But I could be wrong....

    Thanks for the Tassie number. Now I am confused about what the cameo subject is. Plato seems like an unusual option, but the butterfly wings are there at his forehead. I think your idea of Hypnos has merit.

    But other commesso cameos were carved by Lamant, as we have discussed previously.
