    Alo the orange and coffee choclates from Quality Street, that no one ever seems to finish and lollypop sticks ( not sure why but always lollypopsticks) and the remote control trople A battery.

    Hi everyone
    @antidiem
    I pulled the dust cover of the bottom of this city and made a video. And took some photos.
    It appears to have been strengthened on the inside reframed on the inside.
    The original framing seems to have a lot of nail holes in it. As someone else said looks like it's been reupholstered a few times.
    The interior of the original external frame is quite fresh and pale. Where a piece of the gold layer has chipped off you can see white plaster or something underneath but then in other places you can also see the pink colored bole.
    Here is the video

    I wanted to start a new thread but thought it might be against the rules.
    Keen to know when this was originally made.
    Who can I tag that's a furniture expert?
    @verybrad ?

    Chat GPT thinks from the photos
    High-quality Louis XVI Revival giltwood settee, c. 1885–1910, probably continental European or English workshop working to French taste.
    Seems to think it sees burnishing technique

    The carvings are clean, symmetrical, and very much rooted in the Louis XVI / Empire classical language, with restrained, architectural ornament rather than heavy decoration. They feel consistent and well thought through, but simplified compared to early 19th-century period pieces. Overall, it reads as a later neoclassical revival piece imo, but not 100% sure.

    What age are you thinking? When was neoclassical revival?

    I think Chat GPT came fairly close. It is Louis XVI Revival, but I would think it dates from ca 1860s-70s.
    Slightly more frilly than the usual French style, maybe Italian or Iberian?

    Thanks for the info. It has certainly had a number of re-upholsters, the bottom of the frame is very comprehensively 'eaten' up by nail holes.

    It occurred to me that ChatGPT would also use this thread for its data. And the first post on this was a few years ago. I just never got around to removing the dust cover to provide more info (and now those people are not on here anymore).

    yes but the piece is antique.
    I wont change the fabric until it wears out. Will look great with some more traditional fabric but in the meantime will use that money for other antiques. I dont mind the bright colour to mix things up a bit but definitely would be good to see it with a fabric that appears more contemporary to the piece.
    What would you suggest?

    Very Napoleonic era idea. I like the hot pink, but could see the other in a formal living space.

    I could get behind that. A quick Google didn't turn up bees with stripes, but Recency Stripe fabric is out there.
