I'm cleaning out my Dropbox and camera, coming across images I meant to share a long time ago.

These sweet quilts are 'Rainey's (mom Lorraine's) handiwork...

The end product of our cashmere scouting at thrifts. She set a record for cheapest - the sweater was 25¢, and she used her senior discount. Lol

    This was her first.

Her second. I had no idea how this would turn out and neither did she! She just put it together using strips. In the image, they're horizontal. It turned out very Bauhaus-ish!

Mom's not around, so she'll never make another, breaking my nieces hearts. (They'll be getting them;))

The "modernist" one is backed with thick wool and some of it is from coats, so yes! It is very warm and heavy.

The blue and rust one is backed with some kind of wool crepe.

Thanks, JUDY! I love 'em too. I don't really use them, anymore. I have a nice stack of hand made textiles I keep folded in my nick nack shelves.

I always told new friends, "If she likes you, she'll make you an Afghan." And she sure did!

Very nice scouts, I've searched everywhere for a cashmere blanket and never found one

Found a nice Barbour cashmere sweater recently though

Nothing like cashmere socks either !

Maybe you can get your hands on an Avoca mohair blanket - I was lucky enough to find a full basket weave bedspread, it's beautiful. But black cat Shika means i have it on ice :(

    Check it out!

I like the idea of patching together like yours, rather than forking out for one. (Yep I'm going for a Rainey)ill see how many scarves I can find this winter

But socks are staying as socks !

Look for big pieces, like men's sweaters and cashmere coats. More fabric.

She got creative on that heavy one and used some sweater wrist and waist bands.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

    I dunno, @charlie cheswick

A sock crazy quilt sounds pretty... cool?

But scarves would be awesome if you find enough of them. Hadn't thought of that ;) They'd be nice, neat strips.

    Thanks @Figtree3 :)

    that's long for a mans scarf.....nice find !
I might have a blanket or two hanging around, but you'll do better putting together single scarves like you want to do......
    ps...not my single scarves though...;)

59 inches is about 5 inches wider than my double bed! So, say you wanted to proportionally cover a bed, you'd need to stack 7?

I wish mine were that size, so my feet didn't stick out... They're more like throws.
