This is a 1 inch brooch I’ve been looking at, so these are the best photos. It looks like a lion in a shield and 830. What style would you call this? Is it Scandinavian or German?
    Thank you for looking. :shame:

Very pretty, inh. I think ca 1890s Norwegian, let's ask @DragonflyWink about the shield mark.:)

Thank you, I’ve been holding this listing for a while now. It seems a bit different to me. :)

The way the central disc is attached, and the type of enamelling in a round rope twist border is seen on antique Norwegian Sølje brooches. It is often called Marius Hammer style, but others used it as well.

It is a Norwegian sølje (brooch), made by Oslo based Norsk Filigransfabrikk (1889-1906/1910-1931), and most likely dates to the earlier years of the firm - Norwegian silver and enamel work was high quality, with David Andersen, Marius Hammer, and Jacob Tostrup the most prolific and best known for often prize-winning creations, but many other makers produced beautiful pieces. This pretty piece would be based on traditional Norwegian Bunad (regional folk costume) silver, but was more likely intended for the general market...

Thank you for all the great information, Cheryl. I’m leaning towards getting it, if it’s still available. I’ve not seen many that look like this, but will look again with the terms you gave. :)

I regularly hunt for Sølje brooch bargains, you can pm me to check if the price is reasonable.:) (No, I won't buy it, that would be unethical, it is yours.)
