Hi everyone, as you can probably tell, I am new to this site.
I have inherited what I think is a gilded bronze pen rest in the form of a feather with a bird of prey perched at one end.
I've seen similar on line, but they feature an owl. The one I have is definitely not an owl.
I am looking for advice on what it may be and it's potential value.
There are some letters and numbers underneath the birds tail and also on the underside of the feather, but they are difficult to read.
Here are a couple of pictures

Hmmm interesting. Where are you located ?US ? It'd help a lot to see the letters and numbers though I know it can be hard to photograph them. Knee jerk is possibly Japanese ?

Hi Johnny, thanks for your prompt reply.
I am located in the UK.
This pen rest I found in the boot of my fathers car whilst clearing it out.
This is after he passed last September.
I have looked at the lettering on the underside of the bird using a magnifying glass and can make out the letters GESCH which I understand relates to copyright in Austria or Germany.
On the underside of the feather there is the number 108 and the only letters I can read are SCMU or SCUU. There appear to be others but they are to worn to read.

What an interesting item! I tried google image and, like you, found numerous owl on feather pen rests with the owl as an inkwell (head opens up). Is your eagle an inkwell? I cannot make out the marks in your pic, but they do not appear the same. Some of the metal experts may be able to help with that if you can get clear close-up images of the marks.

    Similar with owls:

    Hi Iconodule,

Thanks for your reply and taking the time to search the internet.

Yes, lots of inkwell owls! The bird on my one is, I believe, a falcon, but the head does not open up.

I think Komokwa hit the nail on the head with his reply.
