Rusted Metal IRON item...what is it?

Recent $2 garage sale purchase, I have a weakness for rusted items. It's heavy! 14" x 9".

Any significant age? When I google image it I get "iron cross", several, but not this shape. I don't think this is meant to be a cross, ....or??

I initially thought it might be part of an old gate or something, but one thing makes me wonder if it is newer and just rusted, it has a loop of sorts to hang it. See last photo.

I think it is what it appears to be; a Cross (Christian symbol). The wrought embellishments are a bit of a puzzle...but the proportions of the beams, along with the hang-loop, make it plain as day, to me.

For $2 I would have bought that too and hung it on the inside of the garden fence. It's really nice.
