    hi folks

bought these two little paintings today, (9"by 7")

been umming and arrring, about them for a while, because i dont actually think they are that good

but thought they might be worth a gamble at 10 each

    frames are wood and plaster

both got the same signature at back, Bird ?

    both painted on wood panels

    any thought appreciated

Jivvy the research is my favorite

I have no comments on the paintings because the photos are... umm... arr...

Can you retake these outside or near a window? During the day? No flash?

For those of us in the northern hemisphere, the light - or lack thereof - really does suck this time of year.

I'd think they were late 19th century European landscapes. But identifying artist may be impossible.

As a Floridian, I do tend to forget how dreary the rest of the hemisphere gets. :p

There would be no arring and umming if you get those cleaned and reframe them try to get a clear picture off the signature

You don't want to clean those - you'd take the glaze off and f them up for sure.

That style of painting has tints added to thin varnishes in layers - trouble is, cleaning can take off varnish and unfortunately that happens a lot of the time even with so-called "professionals". There are lots of worthless "skinned" paintings out there!

I think you have ample room for profit. I don't like the frames. It's those white liners that I find jarring. The brown colour seems to work... maybe some simple walnut frames.
