Just pulled this ashtray out of our buffet. It belonged to an aunt, long passed away, who was a world traveller. She went to the far East ca. 1950.
I know nothing about silver hallmarks, but to me this looks like USAG or JSAG with 900 underneath it. I don't know what the top letters mean, but I think silver purity is 900.
It's about 4 1/4" U.S. wide and 3/4" tall. I'm guessing ca. 1945? It has been well-used for its intended purpose, although I'm sure a cigarette has not been in it for many decades. Still, it's pretty funky and after a thorough cleaning I don't think the center will ever really come clean.
Oh, and the band around the top features repeating indigenous types smoking, with an odd spider web appearing only once.
I have deliberately not done a search of any kind for other examples, preferring instead to rely on the expertise of my fellow boardies. 1.jpeg 2.jpeg 3.jpeg

JS (?) is a maker and AG is likely "silver", aka 'argento'. It wouldn't surprise me if this was Peruvian or similar.

Maya figures, no Mexican marks, so probably Guatemala, which is known for this cut-out type of silverware.
I would have bought it in a heartbeat, and I don't even smoke.:hilarious:
