    Purchased earlier this week!

A lovely ca. 1933 Mercedes PRIMA portable typewriter.

After a gentle cleaning, and putting in a new ribbon, it works like a charm!

Maybe Tom Hanks would buy it from you. He collects typewriters

I would like it for the name. Then I could tell people that I have a Mercedes. :D Sorry about the bad joke, but that is a handsome machine.

I've been making that joke all week!

"I bought an antique 1934 Mercedes!"
    "You don't drive!"
"...I never said it was a car..."

But yes, the name was definitely one of the reasons why I bought it (that, and it was only $100 in full working order!!)

Apart from flushing, cleaning, wiping-down, dusting, and general lubrication, the only other restorative work I've done is repainting the gold line underneath the "MERCEDES"...

I purchased the machine from what I believe is, only the second owner. The lady I got it from said her father collected typewriters, and he got it from the man who bought it originally, so I'm only the third person to own it!

He died recently, and his daughter was selling off his things, including the Mercedes.

Nice. 30's portables are good daily typing machines. I've been looking for early typewriters 1890-1910, the more unusual the engineering the better. Here's my 1905 OLIVER No. 3 'Batwing'. . . so named due to the side strike type levers.[IMG]

The thing that I like about typewriters is that they're very convenient for typing out text that you don't need to save anywhere.

    Thank you notes.

    Story drafts,

    Meeting notes that aren't important

And you have the results immediately. No need to wonder if the printer is working.
