Can anyone identify this pressed glass (?) jug/pitcher 6 ¾ inches H with diamonds near the bottom & vertical flutes around center (from my father’s collection) The pattern reminds me of stemware that I was able to identify as Diamant by Cristal D’Arques - Durand. However, I can find no references to a jug in this pattern. So that idea may be completely wrong. (AI/Google Lens says it is Waterford Crystal Lismore Pitcher. I wish—but there are clear differences in the fluting & rim.)

In my attempt to learn and be accurate: Are “vertical flutes” and “diamonds” the correct terms for the pattern? Or are those “criss-crosses”?

Very pretty pitcher. It looks like crystal, not pressed glass. These things are generally hard to ID, unless marked or labeled. It might be Eastern European crystal that was sold in the US during the 70s and 80s.

I have such a hard time with cut glass/crystal versus pressed glass. I originally thought it was cut glass, but it doesn't feel very sharp. So I opted for PG. (On a former post I gave three examples of things I originally thought were cut glass: One turned out to be American Brillant, another Early American Pattern Glass, and a third pressed glass with some wheel cutting!)

I mentioned that this pattern appears similar to Diamant stemware. I have the same problem with those. Replacements calls them "blown glasss", "Cut, Faceted Stem," and "Vertical & Diamond Cut."

EBay listings call them "crystal" or "Luminarc" but do not go so far as "cut glass/crystal," so I googled: "Is Cristal d’ Arques Diamant cut or pressed glass?" and received a confusing answer:
"Cristal d'Arques Diamant is generally described as diamond-cut crystal glass, using pressed glass techniques to achieve its signature vertical and diamond facets, creating a sparkling, cut-glass appearance without being individually hand-cut after pressing. It's known for its beautiful, faceted look, mimicking traditional cut crystal but made with modern glassmaking, often 24% lead crystal...." Does this make sense? Is it pressed glass or cut crystal? Can anyone explain that to me? Or can crystal be "blown" (per Replacements) into a mold like pressed glass? But then how can it be "diamond-cut crystal glass" "without being individually hand-cut after pressing"?

(I know AI is notoriously unreliable but it does seem to be sampling phrases from actual websites about the technique. Help! I feel like the robots on TOS Star Trek episode "I, Mudd": "Illogical. Illogical.")

That crossed pattern is very common as yiu probably know. So is the pattern on the rim. Unless there is a name etched on the base, you will be struggling to get a positive ID.

Yes, but the experts at Antiquers have come up with "miraculous" IDs in the past, so I can only hope.
