Victorian & glass seem most popular though........

They look like the metal could be gold. Did they mention a metal content?

Rightly or wrongly, most of the jewellery made with actual beetle carapaces that I have seen over the years seems to be described as Victorian.

    1870s onward.
No idea why people think it is a good idea to display earrings between their fingers so you can't see them very well, let alone display them like that while wearing bright red nailpolish.

Belongs in the "Rants" for me... it grosses me out to see close-ups of someone's fingers like that, even when the nail polish isn't chipped.

Agree that dirty fingernails (!) things like chipped fingernail polish don't add to the appeal of an item. You can find me saying out loud to the computer: "Gads, what were you thinking??"

In fairness these photos were snippets, or frozen frames, from a video. Normally her hands would be moving and you probably wouldn't notice small chips.

Truth be told I didn't even look at the nails. The idea of wearing beetle carapaces on your ears skeeved me out first, even though I know it wasn't really a big deal. Hair jewelry and mourning pieces cause no reaction.

There are quite a lot of these specific design of scarab beads on eBay -- I suspect that they are pretty new and maybe even all coming out of the same modern factory.

They are actual beetle parts. It was quite a thing. Tiffany & others made them in glass, but these are the real deal.
