Featured miniature mallet/onion bottle

    Hi folks

    found this interesting little mallet/onion shaped black glass bottle in a charity shop

    very nice condition and moulded but have a feeling it has age

    very thick layered amber glass

    only 4 1/2 inches

    not sure the use ?

    any help appreciated

    Looks like and 01 or 10 molded into the bottom?

    i wasn't sure at first either bluumz but the 3 part mold goes way back (19thc) and the construction (thick black layered glass) makes it interesting enough to be older

    As a recovered bottle addict, I can say it's an automatic bottle machine bottle, not mold blown. Looks newer rather then older.[​IMG]

    thanks Drew, its hard to know when to place it then.

    or what to place it as, a bottle or a vase

    few more shots, really does have that mallet/onion bottle shape, so that has to be intentional

    It would be. All of the water would be in the bottom, to balance the top-heavy flowers it held. The shape is just good common sense for a vase that's going to see actual use. I don't see it as being old either, but it would look cute with daisies in it.

    thanks dude, i guess that flared lip does suggest that ;)

    but not just an ordinary bud vase...........an onion / mallet glass bottle shaped one :)
