Hello I have had this slave tag for a while now and always thought it might be real and authentic but never could find out any info on the tag until tonight I seen a website that shows a man who donated items to a slavery museum and in the photo has the exact same slavery tag that I have but with just a different name so that is pretty much What I need in my head to think this is an authentic slave tag from 1823 but just thought I would post it here to show other people that might be interested and get other thoughts on if they have ever seen any of the tags that are like mine or if they have any more info about the item thank you and have a Freaking great day out there in the world… IMG_4154.png IMG_4167-compressed.jpeg IMG_4166-compressed.jpeg

I said, do some research and find that website and let that gentleman know that he must be donating fake items to slavery museum because ours are exactly the same

It sort of looks like the article might have been from 2003. Or perhaps I'm reading it wrong.

AI says Blackstone County is now "Nottoway County/Blackstone area".

    For reference...
There's one shown on this website:

I find it odd/suspicious that there's no info on the internet about a "Monte Bello Plantation" in Virginia... except in relation to these tags.

I believe Blackstone is a town in Nottoway County. Nottoway Couny was established 1788 from Amelia County. I believe the town went by a different name until 1888 when the town was renamed Blackstone, well after the 1823 date on the tag.

A Montebello, in Charlottesville, appears on the link below.

Here is a link to the Virginia Department of Historic Resources with some info on Blackstone and Montebello.

Virginia has many slavery related items in a database if you wish to search.
