These were left on the give-away table. They looked interesting. Research indicated that one depicts a Russian trioka and the other is a Red Hat Society pin. I posted them on another chat group and the consensus from most responders was that they would have left them on the table.

The Russian pins can be worth a bit if hand-painted; they're apt to find homes no matter how they're produced. I might well have left the red hat for a Red Hat Society member, if there still are any. It's also not my style.

The Russian lacquer brooch of the troika is probably not hand painted but a lacquered print.

Looks like. I spent way too much money on a hand painted floral one when these first came to the USA. The troika one is still good-looking and worth nabbing from a Free table.

    How can I tell if it's had-painted?

Ordinarily, I just can. Eyeballs and experience. Also, they're usually signed on the back. Sometimes the front, but pins are mostly signed on the back.

Never go with the consensus when asking for opinions on items one gets free.
They would have scarfed them up also. We would have too.

I don't see anything on the back.

It's at least real paper mache, with a real safety pin clasp.

Speak for yourself. I always give my honest opinion, whether someone got the items for free or paid a bundle. Ask anyone here.
Again, speak for yourself. I wouldn't have "scarfed them up". Yes they are sweet, but as regular members know, I rarely buy costume. Also, I am not a member of the Red Hat Society, and Russian lacquer sits around forever overhere.
Is that your motivation for bad-mouthing fellow members? We are not that kind of forum, and as I said, speak for yourself.

    One for the 'ignore' list.

I'm sorry Deb, nothing against you or your items, but I don't have to accept character assassination.

Ruth, I know your assessment was honest too, but I can only speak for myself.

Just be honest about others, that's all. We have welcomed you with open arms, as we do with everyone. Please don't repay that by saying we have ulterior motives when we are trying to help.
That is not being 'hoity toity', it is being truthful. No more lies, please.

If what I did was bad mouthing, you live in a whole lot better neighborhood than I do. btw, your ignore button must not have worked.

There is good and bad in any neighbourhood, you can't hide behind the bad to justify your mistakes.
I haven't put you on ignore yet, I wanted to give you another chance.
