Signed Painting of an Apple...Artist unknown

    I just purchased this 16 x 20 in. painting (Feb. 1993). I haven't been able to identify the artist or the red mark at the bottom of the painting. I would appreciate any information or comments. Thanks!

    Looks like Miller to me. The red mark appears to be a personal logo.

    Something about the signature is strongly reminiscent of Arabic script, to me.

    And according to Google AI he was born in 1875 and died in 1953, so apparently that '93 is 1893 :D
    And to make it even worse, Helfferich was actually born in 1871 and died 1941 :banghead:

    Are you sure that's 93 and not 43?

    The way the painting is affixed into the frame, might be able to provide you with a better idea of age. I can't tell whether those are Phillips screws or slotted screws. I know, from examining antiques, that slotted screws are often found on older pieces.
