I cannot get the picture to enlarge when I open the screen, it may be too large in pixel size to upload to my computer. If you decide to post again, just make it be a picture in your post.

    How about this ......

Looks to be European in origin and probably last quarter of the 19th century. A music cabinet is a possible use. What is the configuration inside? Wood looks like natural cherry.

I don't know anything about it, but I feel compelled to say that it is ADORABLE! I'd love that in my house!

Need to see the innards. With that mirror, I'm inclined to say it's a small dressing stand, probably for a bloke. Although the lyre is a clue.

Judging by what I can see in the photograph, I'm guessing it's about 5ft tall...not really high enough to be a gentleman's shaving stand (or similar thingy).

We really need to see inside it to be sure. My guess is that this stood near the front door of a house, and that you put stuff in it for when you were entering/leaving the house. Like at the top you'd have your keys and watch and wallet and stuff. And the space at the bottom is for your shoe-cleaning kit, and the cupboard is for storing your bits and pieces that you might/not need when going out.

Never a shoe cleaning kit. ;) One's man would have done that.

I never said that a fellow would clean his own shoes, I just suggested that such a thing might be kept there. Cleaning shoes is what a gentleman's valet is for.

Indeed. ;) But a varlet would keep the accoutrements below stairs.

I think my family stopped keeping varlets in the 15th C.

That looks like the same one.

It amuses me to call them varlets, but that shows the level of my mind at times. ;)

Thanks Brad. I don't know why my browser couldn't open it.

It is the same one Davey. Anyone know how much was paid for it?

It was $50.00. Has some pretty bad damage to the carving on one of the doors.

Thank you for all of your replys. The date on the metal tab says 1892. Here is a picture of the innards. After research I believe it is a sheet music cabinet. Does anyone have an idea as for as value goes? I need to sell it as this was the wishes of my aunt in her trust.

Don't think we need any more pictures. It is definitely a music cabinet and the tag pins the date down. The identical one in the link sold for $50.00 with damage. Here in my medium sized town Midwest location, I would not expect your good one to bring any more than $150.00 at auction. I think at retail would be in the under $300.00 range with under $250.00 being most realistic for a reasonably fast sale. Values vary from place to place. Big cities and East or West coast locations might do better.
