This is guy used them as desk ornaments for 20 years and have been in his family for roughly 60 years, according to him. I notice one piece is broke off of the semi-circle.

Bottom of pieces say its made in Denmark and have various foreign markings. The maker is Nordisk Malm, which I've found a few other small objects made by them - not a lot though. An eBay brass lamp by them details being made in the 60s.

Feel to speculate or uncover the mystery - it's here to be shared.

    Hi,
All I can tell you is it was made for export. If it was for the Danish people it would have said Danmark.

Have you done an internet search for the phrase on the pen holder (or whatever the small tray is?) Image is possibly a copy of known work of Danish art.

Bayeux Tapestry. Or a bit of it, anyhow. It's Latin. The pot has a Viking longboat in it, and I think the other thing once held a globe.

Greg, it's quite common for European makers to use Anglicised country names even for the home market, it's less hassle. And the EU reinforces that.

It's one of those very familiar things if you're a Brit, I didn't even google it! ;) And it does say Anglorum.

Why it's on Danish brass, I've no clue.

I thought the U's were V's. No wonder why I couldn't get anything out of it.

    Hi Bear,
Just wondered since I bought a lot of stuff in Denmark but 90% of it said Danmark.

Oh, you silly Brit. William was a Danish descendant. Normandy - named after the Norse settlers. Those pesky Vikings.

    King of England, 1066-1087

William's father was Duke Robert and his mother was Herleva who was a tanner's daughter. Duke Robert's great-great-grandfather was Rollo, a Viking who invaded France in 911. Although he was illegitimate William became Duke of Normandy when he was only seven years old - his father died on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. William's mother married the Viscount of Conteville and had two more sons - Odo and Robert.

William was a strong leader and wanted to become King of England. William led his army at the Battle of Hastings where Harold was killed and his army defeated. William then set about the conquest of England; he gave Norman barons pieces of land all over the country and in return they supported him in war and administered regions of England on the king's behalf.

During his reign William ordered the collection of information about the people in Britain and how much property they owned. This information was recorded in the Domesday Book. William died in 1087 after being injured when fighting in France.

I failed to realize the V's were U's. No wonder why I couldn't translate it.

D'uh. I allus think of Will.I.Am as being a frog.

Latin had no U, so used V's for both.

You didn't spend four years going back & forth to Iceland and learning about the Vikings and world domination.
