    Hi all,
I inherited this enamel case from my grandfather. The family originate from Holland and Austria. Does anyone know anything about the age or location of this case of the marks please? I can’t see anything similar on the internet. Is the 500 with overlapping zeros lower grade silver? thanks for any help…….

That looked like an Austrian silver mark.

1920s-ish from the design. I'd think 2" x 3" would be a stamp or match case.

The hexagonal mark is an Austrian Diana head mark for .900 silver, looks like the one for 1872-1922. The date fits in with the guilloché enamel, which is often seen ca 1890-1920, although it has been around for a long time.
Probably a manufacturer's code. HS is the maker's mark.

Beautiful case! Did your grandfather smoke a pipe? Would make sense why he carried around matches.

    I wonder if there's a striker on the side(s) we can't see.

Forgot to add, this type of guilloché pattern in enamel is called 'basket weave'. Not surprising, but nice to know anyway.;)
