I picked these two large carvings up a couple of weeks ago. The smaller lumpy type thing has been sat on my mantel piece for about a year. The two large lumps are 34cm tall and look like modern tourist pieces to me. The smaller unusual item is 18cm tall. I think it is something relating to fertility. Other than that I am stumped..

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

the pair, husband & wife.. ! nicely done , and the fine beadwork , a nice added touch.... imo
    I see tourist carvings....with some age !

The little guy , looks to be a pot belly spirit figure.. potentially representing a Tokoloshe, a creature from Southern African folklore....

    I can't speak to it's age

The man and woman were probably made by a Makonde carver (Tanzania, Mozambique and Kenya), but they depict Maasai or Samburu people.

The little potbelly fellow may also be by a Makonde carver, but these figures have become quite popular and may be made by other carvers in southern Africa. Although referred to as tokoloshe, their appearance does not really resemble the traditional Zulu descriptions of the mythical tokoloshe - "Feared for toe-biting, nighttime suffocation, and mischief" - and may have been derived from Makonde carvings of "shetani", grotesque forest spirits.
