Etagere, sideboard for apartment, ? Victorian style but newer?

    Trying to help a friend. Only pic I have. Drawers are not lined. Any help is very much appreciated!

    I'm seeing a strong Indian influence, if that helps. I don't think it's an antique. This sort of thing would have sold like hotcakes in my area in the 1980s and 1990s and possibly later. It would have looked right at home with a room of black lacquer furniture.
