Copper Plated Butter Mold

Need help finding a value on this?



Approx 7" in diameter

 

Seems rather large for a mold for butter. Plus the fish design doesn't really say "butter" to me either. What does the inside look like - tin-lined? How deep?

Aspic mould if anything, usually solid copper, not plated although they were tinned inside.

Modest value, depends where you are and how fashionable fish in aspic is.

I think I willl ask Cook to prepare some Sardines in Aspic, and if I don't like them the cats can have them.

 

Any where that calls themselves a shoppe deserves what they get, and it won't be that silly price.

 

As I suspected (having just checked my ancient copy of The Art of French Cooking) I think this was intended for a mousse or mousseline of poisson. Could also be for an aspic or jelly of the same. Figure out how much it holds using a liquid measure.

As someone else stated above, this is tin lined copper. Therefore, not plated copper as the OP supposed. I also initially tried to come up with similar and, other than one on Pinterest with no information, the one Messi found is the best comparable. I forgot to check ebay and, in since doing so, found 3 more. This one failed to sell at $17.99 + reasonable shipping so the price for the one on etsy is indeed ambitious.

It has been relisted and there are two others at around $25.00 each. The only thing comparable sold was a rectangular one with similar fish for $16.00.

Ebay sellers seem to be asserting that these are Greek in origin without really knowing. As is often the case, I believe that information gets assumed from seller to seller without any research. I tried to pin down where these really were made with a general thought that it is probably Mediterranean in origination with Turkey being a good bet. I was able to confirm pans with similar riveted cast handles coming from Turkey.



I do think this to be a likely source. This strikes me more as a tourist item than a piece of actual cookware, though I am sure it would be usable. Also don't believe this to be very old.
